We've seen that when people work remotely they don't know if people are available or can be interrupted for a voice/video call. We've seen how this pattern prevents people from having spontaneous conversations and contributes to the feeling of loneliness in remote workers.

In Tandem you have a lot of clarity that you can "tap somebody on the shoulder" remotely. You know if they are in front of their computer and if they are in deep focus (eg. my colleagues don't bother me when I'm in Figma because they know I'm in the zone.)

That being said, we believe that the feeling of safety/trust in the team is paramount to a good work environment. That's why we allow users to control these settings and decide how much visibility they want to share with their team.
